For six generations, our family has farmed the fertile soil of the Canadian Valley. We’ve always strived to produce the finest quality crops and along the way we’ve improved our processes and learned plenty of valuable lessons. Now, we hope to share as much agricultural expertise as we can with farmers, gardeners, hobby farmers, homesteaders, plant enthusiasts, wildlife enthusiasts and hunters across the United States to help bring their projects to life.

Early 1870's
Scottish immigrants Joseph and Martha Hunter travel to the United States and settle in Pittsfield, Illinois, where they raise their children, Robert, Will, and Grace.

1914 Great Great Grandfather Robert & Great Grandfather Joe and crew harvesting wheat with a barge and header.
1893
The Hunter family makes their way by wagon to the Oklahoma Territory for the promise of free land. Much to their disappointment, when they arrive, much of the land is already occupied and the family is unable to stake a claim.
Joseph, a boot maker, sets up shop in the town of Woodward.

1914 Great Great Grandfather Robert & Great Grandfather Joe and crew harvesting wheat with a barge and header.
1896
Joseph purchases a tract of land east of Woodward in the Canadian River Valley, which becomes the Hunter Farm. He continues his trade of boot-making and saddle and carriage sales in town, while his son Robert takes hold of the farming operation.

1923 Great Grandfather Joe with his favorite team, "Cap and Jeff." He's on crutches, nursing a broken leg suffered from playing catcher on the town baseball team.

Robert is a pioneer of growing alfalfa in the region. Many area farmers seek his advice for their own alfalfa crops.

Commercial fertilizer is introduced, changing farming dramatically as planting legumes to produce nitrogen in the soil is no longer necessary. Everett and his wife Louise begin using commercial fertilizer to produce an early wheat pasture for stocker cattle. They find crop yields aren't impacted if the cattle are moved by March 1.

Everett's son David and his wife Laura start Hunter's Livestock Supply. They cater to the livestock and farming industry, providing feed, seed, mineral, fertilizer, solar well equipment, windmills, and much more.

1930s Uncle Art comes to visit.
1997
David and Laura buy the farm from his parents and continue with a combination of cattle and grains. They develop irrigation on the farm and begin producing seed crops, such as German Foxtail Millet, Red Ripper Cowpeas and Scout 66 Wheat.
1980 A welcomed wet summer.

David and Laura's son Logan joins the business and now manages the day-to-day operations of the company.

David and Logan notice a growing demand for small batch seeds of different varieties and so Canadian Valley Seeds is born. Logan, his wife Michelle, and their two children currently reside on the Hunter Farm.
